The Life of a Startup Founder

Business

How Binder Started

This adventure all began back in Cegep with my best friend, Fabrice. We weren't exactly your typical students. While others were hitting the books, we were elbow-deep in bicycle parts, fueled by late-night ramen and a shared passion for tinkering. We'd scour flea markets for forgotten two-wheelers, spend hours refurbishing them in our garage, and then sell them to fellow students – turning a tidy profit (and hopefully, a few more smiles on the road).

Fast forward to university, where our mechanical engineering studies only fueled our entrepreneurial fire. We craved flexibility, the freedom to chase not just careers, but passions. The thought of a rigid 9-to-5 felt like a cage for our creative spirits. It was then that Binder, our current venture, was born. We saw a gap in the market, a need for a smarter approach to industrial maintenance, and we knew we had the skills and the audacity to fill it.

There's a quote I hold close: "Not all crazy ideas are great, but all great ideas are crazy." At the time, Binder might have seemed like a risky bet. But for us, the risk was far outweighed by the potential. We started as just two guys with a dream, a toolbox, and a whole lot of determination. Now, look at us – a team of eight, fresh off a whirlwind business trip to Silicon Valley!

The journey hasn't been easy. There have been late nights fueled by coffee (not ramen anymore, thankfully!), moments of doubt, and hurdles to overcome. But through it all, the core values we established back in those Cegep days – hard work, collaboration, and a shared belief in the crazy-good potential of our idea – have kept us going.

This is just the beginning, folks. We're back from Silicon Valley with a renewed sense of purpose and a suitcase full of inspiration. We're excited to see what the future holds for Binder, for our team, and for the impact we can make on the world. And who knows, maybe along the way, we'll find some time to sneak in a good photography session or two.

Stay tuned for the next chapter!
